I have never heard of this place before... my history knowledge was very bad.... during our konvoi to Thailand... they brought us to this place... Khao Namkhang Historical Tunnel.
"Formerly, the man made underground tunnel was a stronghold of the Chinese Communist Party who surrendered and took part in the national development in 1987.It served as the headquarters retreat, weapons production plant, nursing home, and a school of Maxism - Leninism or Macism political science. There was required facilities and recreation such has a Chinese Opera Chamber, basketball ground, drilling ground, welfare shop, kitchen and 7 points of sentryboxes. The tunnel was dug in 1972,using the manpower of 200 peaople per day and wascompleted in 2 years. The 1,000 metre tunel has 3 levels with 16 entrances."
This tunnel is now managed by Mr. Liang or his malay name Hamid who was formerly a member of PKM.
Entrance fee to witnes this tunnel is THB120 (RM12) per person... A short briefing will be delivered by Mr. Liang on the history of PKM...
He developed a mini historical museum where all the equipment used by PKM during their stay in this tunnel/camp.
Can used for food storage which can preserve rce up to 25 years...
You need to climb up 108 stairs before entering the tunnel...
This is specifically for member of PKM hear their vows during wedding ceremony with just a cup f coffe and 2 sweets...Entering the tunel from one of the entrance
The tunnels are lighted up with light... in those days they used the kerosene lamp to get some lights...Due to rainy season.. the area contained a bit of flood... the ventilation in the tunnel is good... it's cold inside there... and sometime you can feel the wind breezly
The tunnel can also accomodate for motorbike....
This is where they treat the injured member... they even have the expertise to performed the surgery at the operationa area
Shooting range for training.... I wonder what's the sound like here..
Communicating via telegram ....
Meeting room
Going down....
The end...
